For the month of May, Silver Birch Press plans to feature poetry (original or erasure poems) where the word “may” appears. The word “may” can appear in the text and/or title of your original poem — or in the title, author, or subject of the book that provides the source for your erasure poem. (For examples of erasure poetry, see this link.)

Examples of source texts for erasure poetry:

AUTHOR: Louisa May Alcott, Maya Angelou, Rollo May, May Sarton, etc.

TITLE: May We Be Forgiven (A.M. Homes), What Dreams May Come (Richard Matheson), 7 Days in May (Peter Barnes), etc.

OTHER: Any other source where you can find the word “may” (for example, the lyrics to “Once in a Lifetime” by The Talking Heads).

ADVICE: For ideas, visit Amazon.com at this link (which includes the results of a “may” books search).

HOW TO SUBMIT: Please send entries as MSWord attachments to silver@silverbirchpress.com along with your name, mailing address, email address, one-paragraph bio, and any notes about your creative process (send all of this in one MSWord document). For erasure poems, also send a jpg scan of the original erasure.

DEADLINE: April 30, 2014
