Today, we have been talking about balloons — and no discussion of these magical orbs would be complete without a nod to The Red Balloon, the 1956 masterpiece by Albert Lamorisse. Filmed in Paris and clocking in at just under 35 minutes, the film won the Palme d’Or for short films at the Cannes Film Festival. Watch the movie in its entirety on YouTube here.

The film tells the story of Pascal (played by the director’s son) and the red balloon that follows him everywhere. Captivating! Beautiful! Magical! And, of course, uplifting!
