If you squint really hard, you might still see the dollar sign

Fighting like hell,
My whole irreverent essence.
Raw, visceral,
Wasn’t the animal I wanted to be.
Unloving territory–
My worst fear.
Breakthrough, breakdown,
Hindsight saved my life.
I think I just outgrew the dollar sign.
