Silver Birch Press is seeking Valentine’s Day Erasure Poetry based on page 214 from a book of the poet’s choice — interpret “Valentine’s Day” as you will (love, romance, or other thoughts on the day — but nothing x-rated or raw). Find out more about erasure poetry at wavepoetry.com and geist.com
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
In honor of Valentine’s Day, Silver Birch Press is accepting submissions of erasure poems based on page 214 from a book of your choice. For examples of erasure poetry, see this link.
1. Select a book and turn to page 214 (in honor of Valentine’s Day, 2/14!).
2. Photocopy the page, then mark out, white out, circle, or in some other way (see examples), eliminate some of the words. The remaining words constitute your Valentine’s Day Erasure Poem.
3. Give your poem a title.
4. Scan (or take a photo of) your marked-up copy and create a PDF or JPG file.
5. Create a separate typed version in MSWord or in an email.
6. Send an email with your erasure poetry to silver@silverbirchpress.com along with your name, contact information, one-paragraph bio, and the Title, edition, and page number of the book.
DEADLINE: January 4, 2014
All poems will be featured on the Silver Birch Press blog — and possibly in a printed collection.
This sounds really good — never tried it before and the examples are amazing!

I’d love to give this a try — looks great fun and I get to play with words 😉
Thanks, Dawn. Looking forward to receiving your 214 poem!
This is the best one, yet, and I was blown away by the page of samples. While I had learned in recent months(from you) about the concept of erasure poetry, I had no idea there were so many lovely, artistic, and creative ways to make it work. Thanks so much for sharing that link, and I can’t wait to find the perfect Page 214 to use. I definitely want to give it another try!
Thanks, Marcia! Looking forward to your submission of 214 erasure poetry! I have already found a book for my own entry! I think this will be fun!
